A thunderstorm in the making was rapidly approaching the hill we live on. It promised to be a violent storm, so I ran upstairs to close all windows, except the one from where I took this image.
It turned out to be a deflating balloon, as nothing happened. Not even a drop of rain.

Fascinating cloud dynamics. The vertical shafts nearing the ground are interesting, as is your vantage point to witness the spectacle.

I love cloud pictures and it looks like this one could have been exciting.

Hi Peter, what was your thinking about converting to B/W and what has it achieved compared to keeping it in colour?

Cheers

I think you push the drama in the upper half with selective contrast or burning. Amazing formation, we have seen nothing of the sort this year here, normally we have fireworks and heavy storms overnight until now... this year is the driest for years. :(

Hi Steve, the only color came from the trees and the drama is in the air. BW conversion enhanced the sky.

Hi Peter - well seen and dramatic. You can bring out some more detail in the sky with a little bit of shadow and highlight adjustments (would be better with the raw) and then applying some LCE. I did this rp very quickly.

Quite dramatic! My initial thoughts were voiced by Rachel and she posted a nice repost to reference from.
Wasn't there some blue/purple in the sky in the colour version?

Hi Peter, love the cloud formations. Rachel's repost does bring out a little more detail in the clouds. Love the B&W conversion...very nice!
