Shy and usually retreating and skulking in dense low-lying vegetation, this fella came up to investigate the audio for a couple of seconds only to go back into the thick bush. Not a setup per say, but this spot is just about where I was hoping for it to pop up when I played the audio while I stayed inside my car.

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/250s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, just about FF, two smaller twigs removed via clone and content aware, toned down the sprouting oof leaves as they were close to blown in the raw file. The catchlight is natural but in hindsight it looks a bit odd - I will rework that.

Bird is wonderful, crisp and clear, but the habitat is what makes this one for me…love the fresh spring growth on the twigs.

Lovely detailed capture, Daniel. Many of us know how difficult it is to get these bandits to show themselves, let alone stick around for a portrait. Beautiful color shade of BG, complimentary warmth of the perch and surrounding stems.

Great pose, sharp and well exposed. Lovely habitat. Occasionally these guys will pop up and pose, but more often they will sing away from deep within a bush, taunting you to try and find them. Well done.
