Took this one today. Still have several hundred images to sort through but I liked this shot. It shows the display behavior quite well.

D7100, Nikkor 500mm f4 and 1.4 TC, ISO 500, 1/1250 s at f/6.3. About 95% full frame. Not much work to do on this one. RAW convert, a sliver of a crop, and burned the rocks a touch. Hope you like it.

Like it a lot Joe, shots of birds displaying ,preening ect always appeal to me, this is a great shot of a bird doing just that, the blue throat and eye are icing on the cake.

Regards Keith.

Splendid capture Joe, I have never seen anything like this behaviour in the cormorant family - fascinating and spectacular! I would experiment further with darkening the rocks/guano, perhaps select and lower brightness a bit more but still very acceptable as is. DoF perfect, nice details, a lot to like. TFS. Regards, Ian

Stunning capture Joe, money shot!!!

I cannot imagine a better pose from this Cormorant, love the way the subject is situated in that little hollow among the rocks, there's a nice flow in this image given by the shape of the rocks and the bird itself, with those wings open - absolutely love it -great work, congratulations!

Kind regards,

Thanks Ian. You are right. It needed a touch more darkening. I like it better this way. Repost below.

This is SWEET!
I just love the lines created by the wing position.
The blue throat and eye add a wonderful punch of color to the scene. Burning the rock was a great idea.
The detail in the blacks is perfect.
This is one heck of a nice shot.
Wish it was in my files!

Awesome pose, beautiful bird and a great shooting angle. I'd move the bird further into the frame a bit. Lovely work, Joe, and looking forward to more.

What an excellent image! I love behavioural shots like this. If anything, more space behind the bird would've helped. What were you thinking at the time?
