These Puffins were photographed on Noss at the Shetland Islands in Scotland. A cliff is in the background.

Shot handheld (lying flat on the ground) using a Canon EOS 50D with a EF100-400 f/4.5-5.6L at 150 mm. ISO 200 and 1/320 sec. at f/9.0.

Please let me have your comments and critique.

Steen:

I like the story here, with the obvious interaction of the pair, and the attention of the back bird. Very effective DOF, nice sense of 3D. The slight orange/reds in cliff wall play well with the puffins oranges.

I might try a version with 15% of the free space at top cropped off, personal taste only.

I would also have considered a higher ISO to give myself a bit more shutter speed to work with, although you did very well here.

Small flowers are a nice touch.

Cheers

I am a great fan of interaction shots, so I like this one. I think you did as good as possible with the scene. Your choice of DOF was perfect. Nice job!

Lovely image I like the interaction. One tiny weeny criticism - I would lower the brightness on the thrift flowers.

Great interaction shot. The third guy is also a nice "component", eyeing the gossipers.

Magnificent image of very nice interaction. I like the 3D effect in the frame. Would tone down the bright flowers.

Hi Jonathan (and Satish),

Appreciate your critique. It only took a highlights reduction in Photoshop Lightroom to get a much more pleasing image.

Thanks for taking your time to give me a positive feedback.
