Ok, I didn't actually paint this one but I used Topaz Simplify instead. I would like to have a go at painting this image, but the foliage in the foreground is so delicate I'm not sure I could do it. Might be worth a try though...

The topaz gives it a "painterly" look. So hard to catch one of these guys, and especially hard not to blow the whites.

Lovely composition Kerry, one of my favorite birds. I like the Simplify effect, not over the top as they say, but still gives a painterly look.

I need to dig out some of my bird photos. I don't shoot birds much anymore and I now use an Olympus OM-D E-M1. I sold the 7D and 100 - 400, just too heavy these days.

Those lovely saturated greens set off the Great Egret very nicely. I am a huge fan of Topaz Simplify. It conveys the feeling of a scene so well, as your image does.

This egret seems to be levitating! Great detail & texture in the wings.

Great pose and nice processing. It would be a labour of love to try and "paint" this one.

Graceful. A ballet dancer. Love how the bird stands out from the bg. Nice processing.
