I found this beauty when driving in a lonely road a few weeks back. I was fortunate to have my camera and lens with me at the moment.

For this one I used

600f/4 (I)
1D4
ISO1600
Hand held.
Natural light, this is not a set up.
DPP and PS for sharpening and resize.

Thanks for looking.

I like it very much, especially that you have captured some of the natural history of the bird and its environment. Your favoured 2:3 crop works well here, see my latest post, I made it 3:2 just for you! Regards, Ian

Nice that you found the bird on this nice piece of branch which adds interest to the shot, think maybe could do with been a little sharper(could be my eyes) but that apart I think it's a super image.

Cheers Keith.

Hello Juan, nice image. Nicely shown with the moss covered rotted tree perch. The bird is similar to woodpeckers we have in Florida. I agree with Keith that maybe another round of sharpening, it appears a tad soft of my display.

Fun when we get chance encounters like this! Very nice perch, and the WP is placed at just the right angle on it. Exposure, details, colours look good. I think a bit less a t bottom and left would work well IMO.

Pretty bird, nice pose and just love the moss covered perch. I like your crop and that nice plain bg, but a slight crop from the left would work for me.
What was your SS, f-stop?

Great shot - the exciting tree structure and color add to the overall fine result. Personally, I would have cropped a bit more at the top and the bottom. However, your composition works well and I will remember this next time I do a vertical crop.

Killer image with amazing details on the bird and the perch. I can see some coming off of the top.
