Good sharp image, I am sure they can sting but whenever I have handled bumble bees under similar circumstances they have never stung me.

A very interesting behavioral image, John! Good sharpness and the image tells a story. The pop-up flash is giving you some harsh spectral highlights - you might try carefully cloning them to give the light a softer feel (but an effective diffuser will be the real solution :S3:). You might also try opening up the dark area in front of the eye to see if you can bring out more detail there. This is a cool image and worth a few tweaks to make it even better!
