Endemic to Macquarie Is in the Australian sub-Antarctic. I had an easy day at the beach, no arduous walks or climbing. I was able to take a full kit, including flash, which I needed as it was a dull overcast day.
Canon 5DIII + 300 mm f/2.8L II + 2x III extender, 600EX-RT flash with Better Beamer, Gitzo 3532LS, Kirkphoto King Cobra gimbal.
Manual, f/9, 1/200 sec, ISO 100, 1/8 flash power.
Processed in DPP: crop, adjust WB, shad/h'lights, saturation, USM, RAW-TIFF. PS Elements: soften oof penguin on right, TIFF-JPEG, USM.

This is really an impressive portrait, Ian. The flash looks like natural light, The details are awesome. I might consider moving the bird a tad closer to the left side of the frame.

Wow, so much clarity and with a nice head shot! I have to say that you achieved some nice details and with great head angle. I would stay with the 3:2 ratio.

Can't fault it, Ian...this is an excellent piece of photography. Flash terrifies me, I have a small 430EX flash gun and I have never used it, but after seeing this I think I might just give it a go.

Very impressive portrait with nice details and tasteful colours. Excellent use of flash. I would add more room at right if you have it, but this is a delicious image...eye candy!!

Absolutely beautiful. I can't stop looking at this beauty. Agree with placing the bird more to the left or adding to the right. Congratulations.

Thanks everyone for your positive feedback on this one. The original image was taken in portrait orientation but I was not happy with the lower part. Seeing that I had nice IQ around the face, I cropped it to landscape from the right-hand edge of the original frame. Of course, it would be easy to extend the canvas to the right. Regards, Ian

What a stunning portrait. Just gorgeous. Maybe a tad more room to the right, but that's a minor nit. Killer work Ian.
