I captured this image yesterday evening Handheld under cloudy skies. This was a completely unexpected shot. Luckily, I had my camera with me and just as I walked around the back end of my tractor this Golden-Fronted Woodpecker landed on an old cedar stump I had placed some birdseed in a few days earlier. Normally these guy's are very skittish but he let me snap off few shots.

I cropped a tad off the right side and some off the top.

Critique welcomed!

Thanks,
David

Beautiful bird, nicely shown. A woodpecker I have not seen before, thank you for sharing. Very fortunate you had your camera.

Great pose, well executed shot. I wonder if it would be good to add a little more contrast to the face? (Or maybe the whole image?)

Thanks Diane, I added contrast to the whole image and I do like it better. What's your thoughts?

Yes, I do, too. Haven't looked at either histogram but they are always a good clue. Our eyes compensate so much it can be difficult to see slight contrast issues.
