Hello to all,
I am the photographer for the SPBR based in Monticello Arkansas.

There's a small rodeo near me that I try to get to a couple of times a year. It's great fun, good practice but I'm a nature photographer at heart.
I think I used a Canon 1D4, Canon 70-200L F4 IS with no flash here. Wish I had a 2.8.

I would love to shoot the events in daylight. I wouldn't have to deal with the problems associated with poorly lit arenas. A lot of shots are missed waiting for the strobes to recycle, but i still average a shot every 1 or 2 seconds and I am pleased with the performance of the strobes. Shooting Raw is a must. I try to stay at 200 iso and adjust the EV to +1 ,eventually setting the ISO to 400 as it gets darker. Any higher on the d300 gets real noisey.

Nature photographer at heart as well but came across a rodeo one night last summer and had some fun. Honestly was surprised how well they turned out without flash, not perfect but the local paper ran them. Canon 5DIII 70-200 2.8 with the ISO cranked. Tried catching the riders at the top of the jump when they seemed to hang there a little.

Nice stuff. I'll need to check out one of my local rodeos.
