Canon 5D Mk III, 600mm II + 1.4X III. Big Gitzo with Wimberley II. ISO 800, f/13, 1/250 sec. (Thin ice.) Cropped to 70% of original frame. Basic LR adjustments then to PS CS6 for a small amount of Detail Extractor and some dodging an burning. NR with Topaz DeNoise. Some bill cleanup. Attracted to a feeder. Wish there was a little more happening in the BG but the trees are far away. Will try to put up some branches in a mid-ground position.

C&C always appreciated.

Lovely details in this bird, Diane. While the BG is nice and uniform, I do agree that a bit more interest in the perch or BG would elevate this imaage.

Very nice shot Diane. Detail around the head is super sharp! I like the bkg and perch. I would prefer to see a little more space all around if you have it. Still very nice as is though.

A beautiful bird, and it has given you a nice "proud" pose here! Good job with the yellows. A bit tight in the frame IMO, but I realize you like tight crops.

Diane I think you have processed this bird beautifully, nice and sharp without that harsh look, lovely clean Bg to set it off, very nice indeed.

Good one Diane. I agree your note about branches in the background and think it would be a good idea.
Excellant .

Hi Diane, I agree with much of the feedback. The tighter crop works for me - I like to see the feather detail.

Thanks, everyone! Seeing it here, it does look too tight. I do have more room -- will uncrop it some.

These little guys in sun are frustrating -- the iridescence of the dark feathers doesn't play well with the spatial frequency of the sensor -- or something like that.

Nice close up shot of this beauty. Great feather detail and nice color rendering. The light looks a bit high but looks like you handled it well. Another vote for a little looser comp. Well done Diane.
