My first purple martin outing this year. Had forgotten how frustrating the can be just to get in the frame. They are fun to work with and do get lots of chances for an image. This morning some were coming back with dragonflies which I'll be posting later. btw tried them with the D3 also but went with the camera crop factor.

Comments welcome and much appreciated

Great flight image of these little speedsters. Can't wait to see one with the dragonflies.

Nice Al! I tried this the other day and got nothing, know how hard it can be. Turned out great.

Hi Al.
What a greate shot. sharp at the eye and good sharpness of the rest of the bird, the croping is spot on. would like to be able to take a shot like this. Guess it is handhold ???
Looking forward to see the next shot :)

This is a stunner Al!!! The detail and the exposure, well, is perfect. I love the BG and the composition!

HI Meint yes it is hand held very little chance with a tripod. They don't seem to have a pattern coming in. With high winds there is a better chance but we don't get it often around here !!!

Killer shot Alfred, maybe a little tighter would help this one.

Wow, Alfred!! What a great image. I don't want to even think about how frustrating it would be to get an image like this. :) Sharp, great pose, good exposure, and lovely background.
