One of my goals for this winter was to create images of all three of the scoter species. The Black Scoter had eluded me until I got a few opportunities today.

Thank you for looking and for your comments...I appreciate them all.

Great eye contact here and I like upstretced wing. The detail is nice on the body, but I'd like to see a little more detail in the neck. It looks like the neck was probably in shadow due to the light angle. A nice overall image.

Got to be happy with that one Grace! Love the wing position and the flight angle looks great too. Lots of nice detail in the blacks and I like the detail in the head, the eye isnt lost in all that black.
Very nice capture.

Pretty dang nice!...There is a huge tonal difference in the plumage of this bird and that buttery knob on their bill...still, with your exposure work and the light quality, all is good and really rocks in this frame. Really enjoy the slightly turned towards us body/head angle.

Saw one of these guys at Fort De Soto the other week, but only managed a couple of record shots. Excellent flight frame, with nice wing position and good eye contact. I might place the bird slightly lower in the frame.

A terrific shot!
Love the fact that the blacks are so well exposed but the best thing is the visible eye.

Killer flight pose with great light, Grace. The exposure on this one is spot on and could not have been easy. So glad you reached this goal, and not an easy one, I imagine.
