Haven't had too much time for photography lately, but went out for a brief while last Sunday morning to try and photograph this bird. Not common on Long Island, there have been a few around this winter, I heard that the reason is because the Great Lakes are frozen so they have headed south. I was happy when he woke up and gave a little shake. This individual is transitioning into breeding plumage. The stray feather on his neck and the hints of red on his lower neck are hints of what is to come.

Added some canvas to the right side for composition

A great looking grebe?
Nice light, in fact that's what caught my eye! those water droplets also add motion to the image. Nice space around the bird and sharp where has to be.

Great shot Grace. I've tried to capture this with other like birds her and have yet to come with something this good.

Nice ruffled feathers and excellent pose captured, Grace. They nest here but hardly ever seen during winter. (I only have a flight shot from this winter)

Looks awesome Grace. Sharp, well composed. I'm just wondering if a bit of a saturation boost would be good?

Hi Grace, lovely low perspective, and well timed to capture the shake, which in turn has created flying droplets. Great IQ and sharpness for 1200mm, and I like the hint of yellows in the water.

My favorite part is the color of the water and the golds and blues.
Love the shake and the water drops.
IQ is awesome as always,
gail

Very nice subject and pose. I would also amp up the color a tad.

Very nice capture Grace! I'm surprised the SS froze the water droplets and shake that well, very nicely done.

I like the orange strip at the top, but wish it was a little bit lower.

Very nice pose. Head angle and exposure control works good. I like the water drops and the blue/golden water.
