Shot today using the 1DIV, MPE, flash and tripod. 1/60 ISO 100, f/5.6. C&C greatly appreciated.

Interesting subject, well exposed, good use of limited DOF. As with your bee, she appears to be deceased--I have no objection to photographing dead subjects, but recommend disclosing the fact. And if you're going to set up a shot with a subject that can't leave, why not take the time to set up a more interesting BG?

Hi Don. Again - excellent detail within your DOF and very nice use of flash. Mitch makes a couple good points for you to consider. Given a static subject, tripod, flash, etc., I'm wondering why you chose f/5.6 rather than, say, f/11 to get a little more DOF? Focus stacking might be another viable option for this situation. The MPE lens is a great (though sometimes frustrating) tool - keep working at it!

Interesting details and colors captured here. I totally understand working with a stationary subject since focusing is tough enough without the fly moving all over. (It's the bent-up legs that give this away.) With that in mind I do agree with the above good suggestions. Also since you can position this fly anywhere, I would consider experimenting with showing the entire fly or just concentrating on the head & thorax before the wings. Love those compound eyes!

A very well focussed and exposed image, after reading the previous comments (I try not to before I make mine) I do agree with what has been said, a little more DOF would have been good and now the bent legs have been pointed out (that fact had not actually occurred to me!!) it does take the edge off the image a little bit. Nevertheless a well taken image that should should spur you on to do more!

I just love the magnification and details this lens can produce! You did a very good job handling exposure and flash! Colors are gorgeous and very natural. Compositionwise a agree with the suggestions already given.
