Been shooting this family of wood peckers for a couple of weeks. This is one of my favorites. I do like being able to see the food in the mother's mouth but also wish that the mother's head was turned a lil more but I guess I can't always have everything. :(

Very nice Jude! Love the behavior. Good sharpness, exposure and, BG. BTW, you can post at 800 pixels on the long side; I'd like to see this posted to take maximum advantage of all those pixels.

What a great nature image. I love the interaction here. The setting is great too with a nice pleasing BG.

I hate to nit an image this good but it seems on my monitor to have a slight yellow color cast? My guess would be from a warm morning sun. Reworking, the cast seemd to be red, perhaps an attempt to brighten the head dress. I de-saterated them just a bit to recover more detail as well as removing the hue.

Very handsome subjects you have here. I really like the behavior captured here, the light direction and quality and the image is sharp. I feel the tree trunk is a tad to dominant in the scene but do realize that it does form part of this avian's natural surroundings.

Nice action only nit is that it is the male feeding as females do not have the red mustache that is shown here

Both parents feed ther young of the pileated

Nice catch John....I thought it was the other way around with the male/female thing!

Bill,
Thanks about the color cast.....I noticed it and had already removed a good bit.
Sometimes it's very hard shooting in good light not to get any type of color cast. And,
On the processing side, all of that is just personal preference to me, when it comes to
color settings!
