Went back to search for this Guy, Male kestrel
this time around we were clicking it from a distance from a car when it decide to fly to a mound ahead of me and sit there preening today morning
enjoyed seeing it all the time, just was too close for my comfort as i struggled with the DOF
5D MIII + Canon 400 f2.8 + 2X tc
1/1500 , F10, ISO 1000
138364
I know its a bit too close however i wanted to see how close i could get
Let me know your thoughts, helps me learn
best regards

Yes it may be close but the comp feels balanced to me. Neat preening pose with all those ruffled feathers. F/10 seems to have done the trick.

Very nice closeup, either you have great fieldcraft or a really tame bird?
F10 worked well…..

A nice close up, I think you made it work well, getting in this close.

Very nice preening pose. Would have been even better in lower light. You might try toning down the brights just a tad.

Agree very close showing superb detail and colour, seen a lot of Kestrels this looks spot on to me, would not change a thing, wonderful image.

Gorgeous image, agree with the above comments. While the composition works as is, maybe a minor crop off the bottom, just above the black spot on the 1st row of orange feathers-this way the eye isn't drawn out of the frame by the curve of that last row. Really well done here.
