Andvord Bay penetrates deeply into the Antarctic Peninsula and is only 30 miles from the Weddell Sea side.

Again, I'm impressed with the crisp definition, the pure whites, all in a sea of blue. The purity of the air shines through. We're not used to seeing a total lack of haze. I like the crop and composition, as is.

What a wonderful image.
Love the crispness of it and the beautiful shades of blue.
The composition is excellent and I like the ice floe in the LLC. It grounds the image very nicely.
This kind of image is what makes me dream of going to Antarctica.

Hi Norm - this one works very well with the bits of ice leading the viewer in. Again beautiful blue color and well controlled whites. Nicely done. If it were mine, I might still do a luminosity mask to bring out a little more detail in the highlights.

Rachel

Love the colors and composition as well the mountain detail. The sky color and tone seem so clean, I can almost taste the fresh clean air. Very well done!

I wish there was a little more of the water as it seemed to give a very interesting reflection. As much as I like the sky, there seems to be too much of it and not enough water. Wonderful image nonetheless!

To all of you who commented on this image, thanks again!

I entered it in the Smithsonian Institution's 2014 photo competition. Competition in this contest is fierce, and finalists will not be announced until March. But I'm happy to say that this image has been selected as an "image of the day" in the landscapes category of the competition by the Smithsonian.
