This is an Adele penguin chick photographed on Fish Island in Antarctica. It was situated near a cliff down to the bay and ice so it wasn't possible to get a clear background. But it was very accommodating and I took multiple images and then it yawned. It was in a creche of young chicks while the adults were out to sea getting more food for the growing chick. I was intrigued by the inside of the mouth and the structure to assure that whatever enters the mouth is firmly captured and eaten. The specks of white are bits of snow that were falling during our visit.

Comments welcome.

A bit more eye contact would be nice, but it is nice to see a fluffy Penquin!
I would like a larger view…..

Thanks Dan. Because of the restrictions on where you could go it was difficult to get a full image of this guy and the eye contact we desire so much. And I was interested in the mouth as well.

I've got lots more images of chicks!!!

Awesome behavior captured here and super details. Would have preferred the horizon not running through the chick's beak b/c I feel it detracts. Wonder if you have any from a little different perspective.
