Snowy Owl

Ontario, Canada

D800, 300mm, ISO 640, f5, 1/4000

Just back from Canada where I spent most of my time working on Snowy Owls. I'm a little late to the party when it comes to posting Snowy Owls this season and not sure I can contribute anything different than what's already been posted. With this being a big eruption year, many owls are competing for territory. This image shows a female hovering over an intruding younger female.

Love the way the fanned tail merges with the wings. Also I like the tilted head and the nice blue sky as a background.
Great image, Alan.
I always like of seeing Owl images.

White on Blue!
That is a nice change from the White on White pictures we've been seeing of Snowy Owls.
The symmetrical composition is very strong. It would be nice if the head were turned more toward the viewer allowing both eyes to show. The yellow of the eyes works especially well with that blue background.

This is quite different from the other snowies posted so far, Alan. Love the cocked head, spread wings and blue BG. Seeing her talons adds a lot as well.

Works for me Alan, it has a lovely 'angel' appeal.

Ooh this is sweet. Love that pose, and there is a slight gradient in the sky that makes that much more interesting.
