This Eastern Rosella was one of many parrots coming to drink at the overflow of a hilltop reservoir on the outskirts of town.

Canon 40D, EF500IS + 1.4tc, 580ex flash + gold diffuser, tripod, ISO400, 1/100, f/7.1, evaluative, ec 0, fec+1, the bird was backlit, a bit cropped from the top and bottom.

Beautiful colours and patterns on this bird, and I like he forest-like habitat you got it in. Brightening the eye area would be great.

Very striking bird Simon! Agree with Daniel's suggestions. Would also remove the dark brown vertical branch in the LLC.

The colors are striking and you handled the exposure very well, Simon. I agree about brightening the eye. Love the light, the pose, and the habitat. You might consider cropping a bit from the bottom. Well done!

What a beautiful bird! Great details and I like the habitat setting. Agree on the eye and surrounding area being a bit dark. Selective S/H should take care of this.

Fantastic as above (and yes to lightening the eye area...) Did you have any more above the bird?

sweet, the dof catching a few of the branches is a very nice effect, as is the muted green color of the foliage
