Little Owl
The awful blue in the back is a tractor tyre.
Done late evening tonight. Sun one minute -shade the next. This is a natural stare. She is looking at my foot out the bottom of the hide. This bird is so tame she will not look at the camera unless you do something like cough or wiggle your feet !

How far out were you on the 50-500?

A wonderful "Don't mess with me" look.
Perch is great and love the swirling lines created by the wire.

Hi Johnny, great eye contact, and you have brought out the detail on the owl so well. I do like the BG. Did you capture this vertically? I ask that as cropping up from the bottom to just above the wire and creating a traditional landscape comp. :w3

Joseph. Strangely enough the do sometimes live and nest in ol rabbit burrows if no suitable tree sites are around.
Joshua With the 500 mm I was about 12/15 footaway so the lens is pretty good at about 200mm for shake etc. I use it because the bird could turn up at various other places farther away in the farm yard.
Stuart Must be one of the rare occasions when I have gone upright ! mainly because the 50-500 has a collar on so easy to alter. Thats the one bad thing about the 50-300 Nikkor - it has no tripod collar.Sad storyabout this shot. I tooh dozens on that perch and Myson did. I lost all mine doing a back where the software went wrong . This was the only one left which I had to rescue off a web site. Luckily I had hundreds more taken that year.

Killer stuff John. Lovely pose, stare, IQ and setting. You certainly nailed this. If you twisted my arm real hard for a crit, I'd say add a touch more space to the top if available.

This is just about my favorite head angle for almost any owl...the looking down a bit look. Love the perch and hardware on it. I even like what the tire gave you in the BG! If anything I'd agree with Sid for a bit more room above. Super nice!

Now, as to what was in that flask -- maybe that's a technique I need to work on. Any advice?

Thanks Adrian Would need a canvas stretch or big cloning as its about full frame at the top.
