Hi Holger. I think this a beautiful profile shot of him calling. Your file size is quite small and I think this has affected some loss in detail here. Love the oof grass band with dark background. TFS

I spent ages this autumn (fall if you're American) looking for male pheasants to photograph because they look so good at that time of year. I had no luck.
Neat shot Holger. Colours are wonderful and really show what a beautiful bird the male pheasant is.
Some loss of detail on the head unfortunately.

HI Holger, little nits covered but I do like the pose and the OOF grasses you have caught the moment very well.

Holger.

I think the comp and strong environmental sense works very well here. Some of the lost detail in red cheek patch is probably from a blown red channel.
Taming that would improve the apparent sharpness.

Cheers

Awesome behavior captured in a sweet little setting. I love the grasses, especially some of those seed heads. Good point raised already about needing to tame the red channel, but hard to control in this kind of light. Great job composing with the length of that tail! Still, a little more space on top and to the right would not hurt....

All wonderful except the REDs as noted by Randy. Love the fact that the head is set against the dark BKGR. The head is angled slightly away.... The light and the setting are spectacular. Be right back....

Moved signature. Small crop from below. Pulled the curve up for the whole image. Selected the RED face. Put it on a Layer. Added 90 points of CYAN to the REDs in Selective Color.

Hi Holger, striking colours on this fellow, reds mentioned, and I do like that he is posed against the soft waving grasses of the BG. I also like the angle of the tail, it simulates the lines of the grasses in that area. Well captured.

Love the mood and the environment depicted. Calling pose is excellent. Don't these follows have the strangest call? Lovely light and colors. Reds can be tamed as mentioned. Nice work

Yes that's right. The original shows more details.

Thank you Arti for your work. It looks very nice. The setting sun had a very red light. In the original RAW is more red as in my OP.

YAW It is easier to tame the REDs when starting from scratch. Much better to add CYAN to the REDs than to try and desaturate the REDs...
