Very nice Stuart! Love the downward wingstroke combined with the upwards lift of the head. Perhaps cloning in a bit of texture on the larger black area below would work well, but the rest of the BG is pretty cool.

bird is lovely, sharp well expose and nice wing position, BG on the other hands is a bit busy

I agree with Arash that the background is a bit busy. The darks overwhelm the image. I also thought that there was too much green on the bird. I reworked it and did the following:
1. Added magenta to the entire image, but especially to the bird.
2. Reduced the contrast of the background.
3. Increased the contrast and darkened the bird.
