Never really got into close-ups (I was never sure where to crop), but recently I thought I'd give them a shot to improve on them. Nothing fancy here, just a Canada Goose at the local Biopark. The birds at the Biopark are very used to humans, so this allows for close-ups - and I'm taking full advantage.

All critiques are welcomed and appreciated.

Well, you say you don't know where to crop, but the comp is perfect.:S3:
Lovely diffuse lighting and excellent IQ. Perfect HA as well with a soft subdued BG. Exposure is spot on.
Good call on DOF,

Hi Miguel, excellent exposure, you sure nailed that department. Super pose, and the goose does pop nicely from the pastel BG.

Yes to a fine comp. Did you shoot this vertical in camera?

Solid close up work. The technicals are about perfect imo. The elongated pose looks very good as composed.

Thanks guys.

Stuart, I did shoot this vertical in camera. The goose gave me enough time to shoot in vertical and move the focus point to the top left and put it on the eye. Still had to crop a little bit from the top (too much room) and had to straighten it a bit.

Hey Miguel, thanks for your feedback. Im not sure what a biopark is, similar to a zoo? In any case, when you have a co-operative subject, its fun to take your time with various comps. You also have to have a good BG, and zoo's dont always have them. :w3

Miguel,

It is a great portrait. I see that you have made the transition. Have you sold your lens yet?
How are you liking the combo?
