going through more Barrow files. On my first visit four years ago, Lapland Longspur was near the top of my list of species to photograph. Turns out they are super common and responsive to call playback (as this bird was) and almost easy to take for granted after a few hours there.

Hi Matthew, great low angle and very nice bg and fg textures to compliment the Longspur.

I like the setting, HA, sharpness, low angle and composition. I also like how the tail is holding down some of the grass. Excellent image Matthew!

Matthew thanks for sharing this beauty! love the habitat feel and the perfect HA in this one. The colors of grass surrounding the bird makes it stand out very nicely. It's a real joy when one can find, and photograph, a species one has dreamed for long! :)

I've only ever seen and photographed winter-plumaged specimens...a real treat to see one in breeding plumage! Lovely setting, techs as perfect as usual. I could do without the piece touching the bird below, but all else is top notch!

The deliciously just in focus enough background grasses are a standout and memorable feature to the image...provides such visual complexity in the soft even lighting. Love the image, and the plumage. I tried audio on a group of mid-breeding plumaged birds that I found in the middle of April in Minnesota this year....they could of cared less, even with the females nearby....Oh well, yet another reason to go to Alaska :)

I've looked at this a couple times...love everything about it. The habitat completes it.
