Here's another look at this handsome species. Again shelled peanuts were used to lure them onto the perch. The shelled peanuts need to be fastened one way or another for these jays or else they will simply grab them on the fly...having them work for the prize gets them on the perch for much longer:w3.

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/200s., f/5.6, ISO 400, natural light, handheld, small crop for comp, a couple of dark spots in the BG removed as well as a piece of perch in LRC (clone tool). Yellow-ish cast under the tail sponged-out.

Love this background Daniel.

Bigger fan of your previous Blue Jay, but this is no slouch!

What do you use to fasten the peanuts on the perch? Last time I used Peanut Butter to hold them in place, but never tied them or nailed them in place.

What a nice BG to showcase this handsome Jay. The pose and HA are perfect and the perch fits the scene well. Well done

Great colors and details in lights and darks... I like how the chest colors go with the background. The only thing is that i want to see more of its back plumage... ;)

Nice Jay - great detail and exposure, but I am not too crazy about the angle of the perch, had it been going in the opposite tangent it would probably not have obscured the bird.

This is excellent Daniel.
Love the BG and that perfect HA.
IQ is awesome as well with wonderful feather detail.
I see a vertical line running just behind the tail ( looks like the line one gets when adding canvas) but even if natural I would get rid of that,
Gail

Good eye Gail! Not sure where it came from but will definitely get rid of it....

You can feel free to keep posting beautiful images of this species as they rarely seem to surface, and most look nowhere near this good. If the crest were fully erect, the image would almost be too good :) I really like the birch perch! The subtle variations you achieved in the background are also eye candy.
