I'm not big on close-ups (not that I don't enjoy looking at them, I just don't usually take them), but there have been some great ones on here and I thought I'd give it a shot. This was taken a couple of weeks back at the local BioPark pond.
I've got a little more room all around, so feel free to comment on the crop. I should have traded some SS for aperture as I was really close and could use the d.o.f.

It is a super shot Miguel. There is great detail and the water is a gorgeous colour. I agree with the dof issue but that is how it plays out sometimes.

The fall off of dof doesn't bother me as the eye and bill are so sharp, that's where my attention is focused. A great closeup, with nice water as well. (I do believe that this is the Drake - male)

This sure is a male. I meant to post a female shot and changed my mind last minute!

Excellent portrait. I like the great IQ, low shooting angle & golden reflections in the water. TFS

Love the green iridescence. Sharpness is quite good. I'm surprised that f/8 left the body so OOF, but you were probably pretty close to your subject.

Hi Miguel, excellent detail - the finer plumage shows up nicely, sharp too. You have also brought out the greens on the head so well, and I do like your overall comp.
You should do more of these. :w3

Gorgeous drake. I sooo wish I could this kind of access to this species where I live! I enjoy all aspects of the image. I wonder if you could present this slightly brighter....seems like the bald plate should be gleaming in this kind of light....looks just slightly dimmed..
