Haven't been able to photograph much for the last several months but finally had a chance to get to the beach with Cheryl yesterday for some Snowy Plover photography. Boy did it feel great to get sand between my toes, and everywhere else including my gear. This is my favorite of the morning of a male Snowy Plover preening.

Canon 1D4,Canon 400L F5.6 & 1.4 @560mm
F10, 1/1600sec, ISO 400, manual mode
Down on my belly with chin in sand

C & C welcomed and much appreciated.

I love this image, the bird looks like a princess even though it is a male. I love the dreamy look in his eye and the soft background.

Beautiful image Marina - this really has a serene dreamy feel, plus some excellent timing in capturing the preening of the end of the feather

I like the preening pose, low angle, IQ, light and how the gradient BG matches the colours in the Plover so well. Great image Marina!

Marina - your title is very apt as there is a dreamy feel to this. Good detail, light and the preening pose is great. Nice low pov too. It was worth it to get a little sandy.

Rachel

Loving your preening series, Marina. A good idea. This one does have a sweet, dreamy feel to it, with the bird nestled in that white sand. I like the dark strip at the top, adds to a sense of intimacy for some reason.

Hi Marina, glad you managed to get out again, and you have made the most from your opportunity. Lovely soft light, love the pastel colours, and the 'dreamy eye' puts this over the top.

Loverly. I have a very similar image of a female from East Gulf Beach. Like the soft green strip. Love the feather in the bill and the perfect head angle.

Excellent preening pose, lovely BG, and dreamy FG ... can't ask for much more!

It has been a while since I photographed these birds but it seems to have a very slight green cast to my eye.

Beautiful scene. Love the FG and BG as it puts this beautiful little bird in the clouds. Sharp and well exposed too. Well done Marina

Not much to add to the glowing reviews above. Great frame! Who would've thought that the 400 f/5.6 paired so nicely with a 1.4x!
