Hi all, took this today at WTP using 5d mk iii, 500mm ii with 1.4ex iii at 700mm..
f5.6, iso 800, 1/8000.. Cheers, did some sharpening, lifted exposure. clone stamp tool..

Hi a nice looking image but it dose not look as sharp as it could be maybe a little more USM.

Very nice wing display, Mervyn,

Since the bird is not fully in-focus, I agree with applying a bit more selective sharpening using a technique of your choice.

I would also, if the photo were mine, crop slightly more from the right side.

nice banking pose but image is quite soft

I'm really liking the banking pose and the beautiful water BG, but I agree the subject is soft and too centered. Not sure you need that much SS, perhaps stopping down a tad would have helped.

Merv, if conditions warranted a sunny 16 exposure, you were at least two stops underexposed here. That leads to all kind of trouble in trying to reclaim an image. I'd get a solid understanding of exposure theory, and couple that with frequent histogram checks when obtaining your captures. The wingspread here is perfect, but the softness pulls this down. Artie has written a ton of excellent stuff, and there is also a wealth of info on the net that will help.
