Common Poorwill (Phalaenoptilus nuttallii) - Madera Canyon, Arizona, USA - May

The common small nightjar of the western US and Canada. Nightjars usually don't show the white corners of the tail when perched so I really like this image because it shows this character.

Canon 7D, 600, 1/250 sec; f/14; ISO 200 Levels, slight color correction, sharpened head, two dead blades of grass removed during processing.

Enjoy.

Hi Rick, A sharp image of a hard to photograph species. Please let us know what gear you used, the exposure data, and tell us about the situation. Thanks.

Terrific image, Rick. You did a great job with the flash work here. Really like the rock bed!

Canon 7D, 600, flash, 1/250 sec; f/14; ISO 200. The bird was called into a clearing where it sat for twenty minutes during one of my Arizona Nightbird workshops.
