Cropped to vertical. Should have used f/14 on this one.

Very nice detail on that fascinating eye - makes one wonder just how they see through all the "hairs." I agree that f/14 would have been better - to get a little more DOF around the face and mouthparts.

Yes good shot Mitch but DOF is a little limited.

Hi Mitch.

The eye certainly is interesting, and it is very sharp. But further magnifying the one part of the bee that was somewhat sharp emphasizes the DOF problem. You were right in saying that the lens should have been stopped down further.

I also suggest that if you want to capture details of the face of an insect, it is better to photograph it from the front, where both eyes can be seen. Did you capture such an image of this bee?
