Extremely numerous and wild on the Island from Sea Level to 4000 ft.
They come in all colors but reddish hue is dominant.
I would have like a better HA, but they are skittish..........

1/400, f6.3, iso200, 112mm (70-200vr11), D800, HH

Hi Dan, I think you are being hard on yourself with regards to the HA, at least he's not looking away. Love the overall detail on the fowl, and nice and sharp too. Nicely separated from the BG.

I agree the separation is good and the subject well caught. It may be my screen but I would lighten just a touch.

You're taking me through my trip to Maui all over again. My guess is a grass finch or a Francolin next :)
The Fowl looks nice and sharp and the HA isn't bad at all. Nice shot.

Cool, I love to see wild fowl like this. I like the setting, just a few of the upper bright streaks could be toned down a bit. I'm with you on the HA, wish it was turned just a bit more towards us...good job getting close to a skittish fella with only 112mm!

Nice job on this Jungle fowl. I like the colors of this nice hen. I don't know about skittish, though. When we went to Waimea Canyon and ate out lunch up there, we were almost attacked by the roosters who wanted a handout, even jumping up on the picnic table. Of course, that was before we got into photography.

Linda,
I was being tongue in cheek. They are not skittish and in fact are everywhere.
I think it is hilarious they are referred to as "jungle fowl" in Hawaii bird books.
For the folks, this is a chicken. They have overrun Kauai, I would guess in the hundreds of thousands at least.....
