Greater spotted Woodpecker. Another from my woodland pool.
Still they come - despite the hide being flooded and water every where. Once they get used to a site they seem to stick to it.
This is why I got the 70-300. The other Sigma at 100mm would give problems when birds this size come to the front.
Might be a little blue, but then the blacks on these are a bit like that.

Hi Johnny, good angled pose, and overall well exposed too. There are areas that are on the edge of over sharpening - the foliage above the tail, and on the woody, feet and below the wing. I see a funny mark just below the tip of the beak, and I would run some NR on the BG.

Thanks both
Hi Stuart- I absolutely agree but as I said I put the wrong I couldn't work out how to change it. Is it possible without posting another one on!

The bird is tack sharp, but I agree with Stuart. There are some areas that are oversharpened. It is a cool environment as Karl said. In this case, I would have sacrificed aperture for shutter speed. It looks like you're saying you posted the wrong image--you can edit your post and switch pictures. TFS

Here,s the one I meant to post. Interesting to see if folks think its any better. The beak mark may have been where I covered a dot of bird poo- not sure.

I like the open beak, setting and composition. Tail acting like a kick stand for the bird is interesting. Nice image Johnny.

Beautiful woodpecker, and a lovely setting. Love the composition. Sharpening on this one looks better than the OP, to my eye. Well done.

Super shot, the repost is better but for me it is a tad over saturated/too much contrast (the histogram seems to confirm my thoughts). The setting is ideal, looking forward to seeing more.
