Will be in the Boca Raton area next month. Other than Brian Piccolo park, are there any good sites (within an hour) for Burrowing Owls? Does Florida Atlantic U still have burrows?

Thanks.

I am sorry that I don't have the answers to your questions, Jory. Maybe one of the other members will know.

There are two other places in the area that you can visit:

Vista View Park (4001 Southwest 142nd Avenue. Davie, FL 33330) has several borrowing owl nests particularly toward the end of the road at the top of the hill. This is an old landfill converted to a park so there are "hills" where people walk and exercise. This is a great place to see the owls. You'll find some nests near the GPS coordinates 26.069321, -80.343531

Florida Atlantic University has a dwindling population of owls. Many of them have been displaced to back lots near the research park on the north east side of the campus. You will find some nests at the gps coordinates 26.379846, -80.095905

Finally, in my opinion the owls in Vista View are much more accustomed to seeing people and are therefore less skittish. The FAU owls are less friendly and will often flee the nest if you get too close.

Good luck!

ps. in case you're not familiar with how to find locations based on GPS coordinates, simply open a web browser and go to https://maps.google.com/. Then just copy and paste the given coordinates and the map will take you there.
