The aggression displayed by mating lions during the early stages of copulation can be quite impressive and intimidating, with plenty of growling, snarling and biting during the process and then comes the dismount which is always an impressive act.

The soft light, sharpness, action, composition facial expressions are all very impressive. Well done.

Impressive image. Both subjects faces in focus and the slight blur in the paws give a good sense of movement

This is pretty awesome to say the least!!
Great action with excellent DOF & details. Particularly like how his readiness is evident:w3.

Hi Brendon, firstly many thanks for taking the time to post replies on other members work, it's much appreciate from both the member & us, as it does build a community and respect.

Good timing and I assume the flash helped freeze the action, or was it purely to help the light? Unless this is FF, I might just pull out a bit more to give the subjects a bit more space all round, obviously in the heat of the moment it's not always that easy, but the flexibility of the zoom does come into it's own here compared to a fixed lens. Personally I feel it's a little saturated and pulling it back a tad helps, especially in parts like the teeth, tongue mane, but it's just my take. What's the slight magenta tinge on the RHS by his mane?

Nice work.

Hi Brendon - Welcome back, you were missed :S3:. Fantastic action, well captured with excellent dof and detail. You are the master of using the flash with African wildlife images. I too immediately noticed the magenta to the right of the top of the male's head and there also seems to be small circle within that area, perhaps a dust spot? I would prefer a little more room above and below if you have it.

Congrats on this one and TFS,
Rachel

Great use of the SB900 Brendon, to really make this dismounting image pop. Love the extra reach/zoom feature on it.:w3

Incredible action and facial expressions!! And beautiful lighting. The bkgd elements frame the action very nicely. I leave all the technical comments to those above.

Cracking moment bud - was his name "Willy"? :bg3:
All been said already...agree with Steve you can back down on the saturation just a tad. Nice use of flash here.

Fantastic action portrayed. The power of these animals is very evident. I notice that their claws are sheathed. Does this suggest that they are posturing?

Brendon - For me, the tight composition draws one's eye immediately to the centre of the energy in this image - the snarling male lion. Her defensive, snarling mouth is perfectly juxtaposed. You've captured him in an almost vertical, human-like position. Composition is the drawcard and you've got it. A memorable image it is! Congrats!

Thanks very much all for your always fantastic comments and advice. Sorry for the delayed response, i have been away for the most of the past month and a half, only been home for about 5 days in total, but not complaining, it been awesome.

I will have a look at all of the advice offered and make some adjustments as suggested, i do have a little more space around and will desaturate slightly.

Thanks again

Hi Brendon

I just love this one. We have seen some fantastic shots here lately. This one is on my top list with Anettes ice bear in full moon.
