I think this was my third encounter with the Scaled Quail, so I'm very grateful to have come out with a shot like this one. The perch was set-up, but it took some time before the quail was comfortable enough to jump up on it. Doug and I were under Quik Camo's, and it was amazing to see the species that came in, including: Western Scrub Jay, House Finch, Cooper's Hawk (that scared everything out for a bit), Gambel's Quail, White-Crowned Sparrow, and Curve-Billed Thrasher.

If the perch looks familiar, it's because it's the same one used here (http://www.birdphotographers.net/forums/showthread.php/114585-Another-Western-Scrub-Jay?highlight=). :)

Shooting Info:

Terrific image, Miguel. Killer species, awesome light, pose and bg. Excellent IQ as well.
Forget Bosque, I'll be queuing up for Doug's backyard if/when I visit NM next :S3:

A very appealing shot. The background works very well to show off the quail.
Nice detail and a great frontal viewpoint that shows exactly why the bird has its name.

Hi Miguel, excellent detail on this quail, and you have captured a super pose. I like the crooked curved perch, and the colour of the BG stands out very well. If anything, I would maybe come in from the left a touch. Just personal. :w3
