Never seen one of these guys below, so I'm glad you did a nice job of introducing me to them! I think you nailed the whites here. I like the body angle a lot (facing us), but do wish for just a tad of a head turn away.

I might look at cloning the portion to the right of the neck.

I've never seen a red-throated loon, so it is great to see such a well crafted image.
Exposure looks spot on and the colours are super. Background works well apart from the grey shape to the right of the loon's neck. Perhaps this could be cloned out.
The head position makes it tough to see exactly what shape the head is but the quizzical expression works well.

The pose highlights the red throat, but I would like to see a bit more of the head. Shooting angle and techs are all excellent.

Thanks everyone. Appreciate the feedback. I have plenty shots of this bird with a traditional head angle, I wanted our opinionon this. I personally like if because their feather structure makes it look like they are covered in felt and not feathers and the one out of place one on his neck held interest to me. (Hard to see at this size). Are you suggesting that I clone out the reeds? Funny because I can hardly see them...left them in for a hint of habitat but if they are bothersome, easy to eject.

If there was ever a question how these guys got their name, this surely explains it. Great comp and techs. I'd agree that if this were taken in isolation, a little head turn toward the profile would be nice; but since it's one of a series it makes a great shot.

Hi Grace, lovely low perspective, and the unique angled pose works for me. Love the colours, well exposed on the whites, and the droplets on the back are a nice addition. Killer BG. Well captured.

Grace I like this different pose as well as the soft light and pastel bg. I only wish for more light on the head/eye area which you may be able to lighten up a little.
