continuing with the green heron series(it's what is available right now)
This one needs a slightly better head turn, but I have left more space
as noted from previous critique. About 1" canvas addeed to bottom

1/640, f/9, ISO 800, manual exp, 400mm w/1.4x
Thanks for continued critique

Really like the pose and the simple comp. Maybe just a little more room on top.

Good work, Nice pose, perch and BG. I, too, think a little more on top would be helpful.

I agree with you on the slight head turn and adding back the room at the top, but I like this nice clean image, the sharp detail, and the pose. Well done.

Beautiful capture and pose and a great BG. I agree about the cropping suggestions.

Very simple and effective, I don't mind the room at the top for wen presentation, although would certainly add more for the print.

I like this one a lot, as mentioned above background and sharp subject make this picture.

I love the detail and that soft background. The feather color is perfect.

Great work, Dave! I like the head angle just as you have it as well as the amount of room on top. You did very well. I might crop a little from the right to really emphasize the negative space in which your subject is looking. Great background too! I went ahead and did a repost (cropped to a more traditional 2:3 aspect ratio)

I may be alone on this crop, but I really like it :)

Great image, Dave. Very simple and elegant. Excellent DOF--I like its sharp little toes. I do think Blake's crop improves the look.

thanks for so much input.....this is really funny, I started out with almost the same crop Blake has done and I got to thinking about how almost every post I make, there is critique to give more space.....and I did. :)

Blake, I like it very much and thank you for your effort.....I appreciate all as this is a super learning experience

And be warned, I have many gh images :)

Hi Dave,
Agree on your self critique of the head turn. But I like the BG and the simplicity of this image. I also like the appearance of the tension in his pose to keep from sliding down the branch and the white lines across his chest.

I really like it the way it is, Dave. And I think Blake's crop improved the composition a little too. The head position doesn't bother me at all, and I note that it's sharp as a tack to the end of the bill (and it probably wouldn't be if you had gotten the head turn).
