This is from last winter.
In a few weeks the eagles will be back. I can't wait!

PP: crop, NR to BG, lightened the blue in the snow mound, levels and DE at 3% then USM to JPEG
Comments and critiques always appreciated and learned from with thanks,
Gail
Now that I see this posted, I don't like the comp. I should take a bit off the bottom.

Gail:

dynamic pose with wings up, bill open, crouched for take off.

Comp is such a funny thing. My thought was to take a bit off the top, to just above the large ridge, but I can see a bit off the bottom as a very viable option as well

Cheers

Really like this eagle pose. Amazed at the light under the wings considering the sun is behind the eagle. Never shot birds in snow but i guess it really helps getting light everywhere

Maybe a bit of the top and bottom would be the perfect compromise for composition ;)

Gail,

Greetings. Great pose and exposure for white on white. I'm for a bit off the bottom. I notice you USM the jpeg. I've gone to reducing to BPN size (in PS 16bit rgb mode) first, sharpening then going to jpeg. You might give that a spin to see if you like it.

Cheers,

-Michael-

I've never seen a bald eagle in the flesh (feathers?) but they look magnificent.
Great sharpness and exposure Gail.
I also think you could shave a bit from the bottom

Super shot, Gail. Fabulous exposure under tough conditions. Great wing extension and open beak. Yes to some off the bottom.

A Gail Bisson classic. :S3: Love the evenness of the light and the take off pose. Looking forward to this season's posts.

great pose and details. I'd go vertical for this one and concentrate on the eagle. Calling pose is a plus

Hi Gail, excellent exposure, as the detail on the underwing shows up nicely, not to mention the whites on the neck too. The shadow has given you a good reference for rotation, and my comp suggestion would be to add a bit to the left. As is, I feel the BE is tucked into the left a bit too much.
