Counting the days, will be there in November and I was wondering if anyone has any other areas nearby while they are visiting bosque?

Will you be in or near Socorro, New Mexico? If so, check out the duck pond
near the New Mexico University. The duck pond is behind one of its buildings
(I think its the Zimmerman Library) and borders a golf course.

It's been a few years since I've been there, so I'm sure somebody else will
jump in and give you more detail instructions. I think we took Bullock Blvd
or College Ave. off Route 60 (California Street) to get there.

I've never been there, but I've heard the Albuquerue Zoo has a large duck
pond also.

sorry for the slew of questions it will help me answer and give tips for you.

there is always plenty to do around the reserve.

there is an art tent right at the visitor center. Then there is a craft fair at an old church I think, just down the road from the reserve in San Antonio.

there will be another art and crafts tent or building in Socorro this year.

along with all that you can venture into the Magdalena mountains 30 minutes away. Or go further south into T or C for the hot springs. Hit up Caballo Lake state park nearby, always good birding.

know that at least one day you must observe the fly in its not to be missed. To do so its been inside the park when they open before dusk with time to park and setup camera equipment.
We give ourselves an hour before dawn.

bring warm clothes.... You will freeze n the mornings waiting on the birds, and usually sunny for a tshirt n afternoon.

If you go in the first half of November you will get the spectacular fall color bgs. After Thanksgiving, the leaves are mostly gone.
