this is visually appealing to me, though I could do without the white frame and shadow.

looks like you captured what looks to be mirages???? or was this done in PP??

The bird itself has great eye contact and is very interesting. For the technical stuff I will leave it to the experts, certain areas look a little soft to me, but it could also be the BG blending into the bird a bit much.

Nice capture though, never seen or heard of one of these.

Lovely bird and a good shot. It is a critically endangered bird.
I would have loved a bit more sharpness in the image, which could have easily done in post processing.

Thanks for the comments.

The mirages you see in the BG are to be expected when shooting in the hot desert. Even in the early morning hours, about 1 hour after sunrise you can see the heat coming out of the ground. Though the image was taken in later afternoone there was little chance of avoiding the heat haze coming off of the ground.

I liek the low angle, pebble floor, and overall warm tones. Yes, the subject could use another round of sharpening as posted.
