Had a little fun recently with a young Yellow-crowned Night heron as he learned the ins and outs of hunting for crabs. The fading evening light comes right down a channel in a harbor near me for a couple weeks in the fall, is reflected off the reeds, and things light up just beautifully. Add a couple good subjects and it's a photographer's heaven.

This is a contest image, Grace. The light is stunning. I love the crab pointing the young bird in another direction. Talk about great timing getting both sharp in the frame.

Hi Grace - Superb!!!! The light in this is to die for, and a great eye to capture the entire scenario with the crab 'pointing'. Very well captured. A contest winner for sure.

This is really a stunning image, Grace. The light couldn't get any better than this, and nor could your timing and execution. Terrific work.

I can just echo all the above. I once asked an old Pro(he won the BBC award) what the secret is for taking good wildlife images. His reply: "there are 3 secrets-light, light and light!!" When is sweet, everything else works!!
I see some posterisation in top BG- I leave the blurring for last to prevent it.

A big thank you to all who looked at and commented on my picture. It takes a lot for an image like this to come together. I had been working on it for a couple of low tide cycles, so I felt pretty happy and lucky when I saw it happen. thanks again.
