I spent two days at the Giant's Castle vulture hide and came back with about 2200 images of Cape Vultures, Bearded Vultures, Verreauxs Eagles and Jackal Buzzards. I again realised how lucky we are in SA to have so many premium bird photography sites:eek: This is an image of juvenile Bearded Vulture landing at the rock where I put out bones for them. We were treated with up to four of these spectacular vultures doing close fly pasts simultaneously. I also realised again what a fantastic camera lens combination the 1D MK III and 500/4 is, most of my flight images were pin sharp. I find that the MK III prefers +1/3 in bright sunlight conditions; the lack of noise on ISO 640 was amazing.

I really like the complimentary colors with the rocks, bird and background. I would prefer to see both of those riveting eyes but still think this is a very well done image.

Good detail, eye contact, BG, wing-spread and you have the landing perch well placed in the image. Nice work.

Love the composition and sharpness as usual Chris! The color palette is terrific too. And the bird's spread wings with claws out completes an awesome photo.

Oh well done here Chris, I like the subject, the comp and general quality if light here. It seems as if you guys had a huge amount of success at Giants Castle.
With reference to the 1D MIII, I do not know if you have upgraded your firmware as yet. I did it sometime during the week and tested it today and my 1 D MIII is really smoking now!!
