With a cooperative subject frequenting a local pond for the past while I might as well take advantage of the opportunities. Here's a standard head portrait...these guys are pretty darn handsome and it is hard to pass by this individual without at least spending a few minutes with the camera and lens pointed towards it!

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4 TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/800s., f/5.6, ISO 400, natural light, handheld, just about FF.

Sweet on all counts. At first glance, I thought that you had moved to Florida... Love the sharpness and the 1 degree towards you head angle.

Well done on this shot. Great Blue Herons are very camera-shy in my experience, and shooting one with this framing must have taken a good deal of patience and planning.

Thanks guys.

Alan, these guys are normally camera-shy and very skittish up here too so when a cooperative individual shows up then we do not let the opportunity go to waste!:c3:

Excellent Capture. Wonderful sharpness, nice to get when there normally uncooperative.

Daniel:

Yes, they are handsome birds, and this image shows that well.

Just the right degree of sharpening for my taste, excellent exposure as well.

I never seem to find such tame GBHs up north, although the juvis are a bit better than the adults

Cheers

Nice portrait and I love the BG. Common bird yes, but handsome and agree it's hard to pass up the cooperative ones.

Wow Daniel, money shot! Brilliant colours and the crop makes a perfect portrait. Beautiful green BG to bring out the yellow on the eyes and bill. Sharp as it can be. A beauty!

I miss my squirrels though, are they out and about these days?

Warmest regards and wishing you a great week ahead,
