I got my first images of Cape May Warbler last week, and although it is not in the striking breeding plumage this individual is sweet indeed. There were two of them (and some Yellow-rumps) feeding on and off of this mullein plant providing some good opportunities. In this image it was the first pass it made after I got there, and I was lucky it perched horizontally as this is a full-frame image. Most of the time they would perch vertically so after this pass I had to back up to fit them in (plus some room around).

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metring, 1/640s., f/7.1, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, FF, sponge tool used to desaturate the yellows on the chest, low-opacity soft brush clone tool used to soften the edges of the pinkish streak in the BG, darkened pupil (burn tool), and lightened iris (dodge tool).

Brilliant image Dan. The IQ, the light, the HA everything is just too good.

Full Frame?!! WOW!!
Love the complimentary yellows and greens.
I like the horizontal/vertical lines in this image.
Perfect DOF as well.
I like the little visible claws and love the soft light,
Gail

Gorgeous as always! But I wish the flower on the top weren't cut off. I'd crop or clone to simplify that top edge and keep the focus on the gorgeous bird.

I think this is an uber cool perch to photograph this species on, and you nailed a gorgeous full frame composition. The color of the flowering mullein echoes the colors of the bird's plumage nicely. Eye level and a beauty sir.

Congrats on the lifer! Love this shot. Only critique I have was like Arash already stated; wish the perch was in focus.
