This is the same individual as my prior post, this time at 3:1 magnification. Other technical details the same except I applied minimal sharpening (smart sharpen at 50%) to this one because any more made the moiré patterns in the eyes get very trippy fast (could be good for album art, I suppose). I tried sharpening with NIK, smart sharpen, and USM and had the same problem with each. And suggestions for avoiding it would be greatly appreciated.

All comments/critiques/recommendations always welcome.

Hi Mitch. Very good sharpness within the limited DOF this lens provides and the sharpness is right where you most need it! I also like the pose and comp with the diagonals of the fly's wings and body. The pollen grains on its face and eyes add interest. This is a very strong image! (Sorry, I don't have any helpful tips about the sharpening.)

Excellent sharpness, looks good to me. The only reservation I have is the large expanse of yellow, I don't dislike it but it keeps pulling my eye away from the super detailed subject.

I use the Philip Perold technique for sharpening, I have edited the Action to produce 800px,1024px, 1200px and 1400px sized images

Thank you both! I downloaded the Perold actions but haven't tried them yet; thanks for the suggestion.
