Striped Owl - Upala, Guanacaste, Costa Rica October

An uncommon to common owl of numerous habitats is found from east central Mexico to Argentina. Of the fifty or so times I've seen this species I have only seen it on a natural perch twice. This image is on the usual roadside power line perch. The green tone of the wire is moss.

50D, 500, 1/100 sec; f/8; ISO 400, flash & BB. Red eye remove in Photoshop.

Enjoy!

Gorgeous bird! A shame about the power line, but not much you could do about that.

That is a gorgeous owl and some haunting eye contact you achieved. Love the eye coloration. Image quality is excellent. One suggestion would be to dial back the brightness of the flash work on the owl just a bit.

Very nicely exposed shot of the owl with a good pose. The sky appears ink black - was it really so dark?

Like his position in the frame and the pose. Debating the jet black BG, but I think it works.

This is a terrific image!!! Love all the details. You did a great job removing the red eye. The power line even works!
