We have three Ruby-throated Hummingbirds that visit our feeders from time to time. The adult male comes only rarely. This one, I believe, is a juvenile male. It's been gloomy here, and there wasn't enough light to stop him in flight, but he kindly sat for a moment. I only took a few shots, figuring I would try again when it was brighter. But then the rains came and decimated the Butterfly Bush blossoms, so I may have to wait until next year. I sort of liked the way he was focused on the task at hand, but some of you will (rightly) wish for a little head turn.

I'm quite ok with the little one's head angle here. He's choosing his flower, not thinking about us. Quite a sweet image, Bill. A flower that large could dwarf the subject, but not in this case, in my opinion.

Beautiful image Bill! I like the flowers, composition and pose. You did a great job with the low light. HA works for me.

Hey Bill,
I wish for more bird and less flower....but I do think this also works as presented. Yeah...better HA would be nice.....but still a very good image!

Hi Bill, Nice color with the muted light but like Roman I feel the subject is slightly over powered by the flower.

I really like this, Bill. That hummingbird really seems to be contemplating the flower. Maybe wondering where to begin? I think it works, wouldn't change anything.

Bill i love the composition here, the bird is a small one so composing it with the nice flower is great idea,
your title is so apt

Very unusual shot.
I like it because I can't help anthropomorphizing that he is thinking " OMG, where do I start?"
He could be the poster child for "gluttony"!
IQ and DOF are excellent as well.
I am Ok with the head angle,
Gail

I also like this image a lot Bill. I like how the curve of the flower leads my eye to the hummer. I also like the dorsal view & I think the HA is fine. Wonderful detail & color. TFS.

Thanks everyone. I always appreciate your comments. I suppose I could have posted this one on Flora, with the hummer as a secondary element. But in addition to the story line, I liked the way it emphasizes just how small these little creatures are.

Nice image Bill. It does show how small these birds are and makes a change to see one perched instead of hovering. I have a buddleia bush in my garden but living in the UK only get butterflies on it- roll on global warming( only joking).

I like it, Bill. I had them coming to my lepbush but they didn't rest for a second. Fine job.
