Took this last winter at a small park pond that has a few resident Wood ducks living there. They are pretty spooky but if you are slow and non threatening, you can get close enough to get some nice shots.
Normally an evening spot because of some trees that block the morning sun. I like shooting Wood ducks in the evening light anyway, brings out the golden colors in their plumage. As I am posting I see that it could use some ccw rotation.

Thanks as always for looking and for your input. I appreciate it.

Sweet ! Yes to rotation. I think that a composition where there's more room would work as well, just as anther option for this fine image.

David:

The lighting angle has given you excellent detail in the wings, colors are bold, nice water color. Yes to rotation, and I am with Grace, a slightly looser comp.

Cheers

Now that's an extreme wing flap - a very proud Wood Duck. Wonderful colors. Another vote for CCW, and more room especially on the left. But a fine image.

I like the wing position, details, complimentary BG and IQ. I could see a looser version but still a beauty as presented. Excellent image David!

Thanks for the comments everyone. Here is a repost with the ccw rotation and a looser comp.
Thanks for the help.

Hey David,
I like tight crops so OP works for me (Besides rotation).....but both work and a very nice capture!

Hi David, you cant go wrong with wood duck colours in such lovely light, and the extended wing from the flap shows up the feather detail on the wing nicely. Sweet BG, and you have nailed the repost. Well captured.

Just beautiful, David. What a pose, what gorgeous light, what spectacular detail.
I do see a bit of a white (sharpening?) halo along the breast which you might want to address if you print this, which you should surely do.

the second composition is much better. wonderful light, detail, pose, and colors. I wonder if you could reduce the dark halo in front of the breast?

Wonderful flapping shot. Great wing pose. Very good exposure and details in the wing. I like the 2nd posting best.

Nice one David such a colourful image
I prefer the looser compo makes it very nice on the eye, the colours are wonderful so the bird always is dominating in the frame with that plumage
great IQ , its a fantastic pose captured
